There has been a pub on this site since 1850 when a licence was first granted to a gentleman called Samuel Forrester to sell porter and spirits.

These premises were very small and surrounded by a cart shed, stables and two workshops as Mr Forrester was not just a spirit dealer he also sold hay and grain. At the end of the nineteenth century the old premises were demolished and replaced by the new red sandstone building that you see today. In 1937 a Mr Patrick McGoorty took over the premises and renamed it The Station Bar and he ran the premises through World War II until 1950. Another owner was Edward Foley who brought the pub its excellent reputation and the pub is unusual in having only had 5 owners in its 170 year history. Today the pub is run by myself, Michael McHugh, along with Derek and May Watson and our combined knowledge of real ales, brewing, and malts has earned us a first class reputation and we have recently been commended by the industry for the excellent quality of our Ales.

Nowadays The Station Bar is affectionately known as ‘The TSB’ and it appeals to people from all walks of life, particulary the theatre and television crowd as well as musicians as we sit close to the nearby theatres and concert halls. The next chapter starts here so join us and be part of our future history.
